My name is Ben Hartman and I write sci-fi. I’ve always loved science – particularly when it came to exploring our world and the ones beyond ours. I love to explore the dynamics at play in history, economics, psychology, philosophical ethics and every one of the dozens of themes wrapped in each book. I seek to create worlds that readers can escape into because life is hard, damn it.
My first few stories deal with a group known as the Horsemen. They’re a group of militant scientists who know how to bend the world to their will. It’s not your typical military sci-fi, I want to bring characters who have suffered, who have been tested, who have been broken. Yet they still find the resolve to fight back and destroy evil.
I started writing novels by accident. I wasn’t a reader until I was 16 and even then it took another decade for me to appreciate a good novel. However I always had stories I wanted to tell. I wanted originality. I wanted new stories that people could appreciate, and the more I talked to others, the more I realized they wanted the same.
I’m not saying I’m the only guy writing an original (or at times even unique) story. But I can say that writing brings a profound joy I’ve never been able to replicate and there’s no greater excitement than when a friend devours my work and wants more. The whole process has become my craft, one I yearn to share with the world.
I hope you enjoy reading my work as much as I do creating it!
